Spring brings a fresh burst of color and energy, making it the perfect time to refresh your classroom or home bulletin board with creative projects that kids will love. This post shares easy, hands-on ideas that combine art, nature, and sensory play to celebrate the season. You’ll find fun ideas for handprint and footprint art; such as a bee, frog, flowers and ducks. We also explore a fun egg carton ant craft inspired by the nursery rhyme 'The Ants Go Marching. These projects use simple materials and encourage creativity, making them ideal for parents and educators looking to inspire young learners.

Handprint and Footprint Art Projects for Kids


Handprint and footprint art is a classic way to capture the joy of childhood while creating bright, cheerful decorations. These projects are simple, require minimal supplies, and allow children to personalize their work with colors and designs.


Materials Needed

  • Washable paint (various spring colors like green, yellow, pink, blue)

  • Large sheets of white or pastel-colored paper

  • Paintbrushes or sponges

  • Wet wipes or a basin of water for cleaning hands and feet

  • Markers or crayons for details

  • Scissors and glue (optional)


Project Ideas


1. Handprint Flowers

  • Paint the child’s palm and fingers with different colors or a single color.

  • Press the hand firmly onto the paper to create a flower shape.

  • Use a paintbrush or marker to add stems and leaves.

  • Add details like dots or lines on petals to make each flower unique.

2. Footprint Bees

  • Paint the sole of the foot yellow.

  • Press the foot down.

  • Once dry, draw the bees stripes, face, antennas, wings, and optional the bee trail saying buzz.

3.Handprint Frogs

  • Paint the child's palm and fingers green.

  • Press the hand firmly onto the paper.

  • Once Dry use a sharpie to make smile and the fly trail.

  • For the eyes I used a white paint marker and sharpies. You can also use googly eyes and encourage the child to put them on.

  • To make the tongue I rolled a small piece of red paper and glued it down. With a older child you could encourage them to do it.

4.Handprint Ducks

  • Paint the child's hand brown.

  • Press the hand on the paper.

  • Once dried glue on neck and head.

  • Encourage the child to glue on beak and eyes.

Tips to Enhance Creativity

  • Let children mix colors on a palette before applying paint.

  • Use different paper textures or colors for varied effects.

  • Encourage kids to name their flowers or butterflies and write the names on the board.

  • Combine handprints and footprints to create garden scenes or animal shapes.



Fun Activities Using Egg Cartons to Make Ants


Egg cartons are a fantastic recycled material for crafting. They are sturdy, easy to cut, and perfect for making small creatures like ants. This project is a great way to teach kids about insects while practicing fine motor skills.

Materials Needed

  • Empty egg cartons

  • Black paint or markers

  • Googly eyes or small paper circles for eyes

  • Pipe cleaners or black string for antennae and legs

  • Glue or tape

  • Scissors


Step-by-Step Instructions


  1. Cut a strip of three cups.

  2. Paint the cups black and let them dry completely.

  3. Attach googly eyes or draw eyes on the front cup.

  4. Cut pipe cleaners into small pieces and glue or tape them to the sides for legs and on top for antennae.

  5. Optionally, add small red dots or stripes for a creative twist.

Tips for Engagement

  • Turn this into a group activity where kids build an ant colony on the bulletin board.

  • Use different sizes of egg carton cups to create ants of various sizes.

  • Add a story or fun facts about ants alongside the display to spark curiosity.

  • Invite children to name their ants and write short descriptions.
